The Poglio Wine Estate, located in Castelnuovo Calcea (Asti), was established at the beginning of the 19th century by Giovanni Poglio, called “VANIN”. The ancient tradition was handed over form father to son till today. In 1979 the great-grandsons of Vanin, Piergiorgio and Roberto Poglio were awarded by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Asti with the Golden vine-shoot for 178 years uninterrupted work in viticulture and wine production.
The wine estate processes only grapes
from its vineyards located in areas particularly suitable to give
well-structured wines of excellent quality. The vinification is made
with traditional methods and the aid of modern technologies to
better enhance the peculiar features the grape produced and give the
consumer the guarantee of a balanced and genuine product. |

IL GRIGNOLINO The Poglio family harvests Grignolino during the first decade of October. The vinification of 100% grapes of this variety follows a strict selection during the harvest and is made with traditional fermentation in steel tanks at constant temperature to maintain the rich bouquet offered by this variety. This wine shows a light ruby red colour when young, while when ageing it gets delicate orange tones. Very fine scent reminding above all roses. Correct tannin, balanced in the mouth, a bit sour in the finish. |

IL CORTESE Cortese del Castello is the highest expression of the typical white wines of the Asti region. Wine produced from grapes selected in the wine estate and coming from vineyards located on the old site of the Castelnuovo Castle. Bright straw yellow colour, pleasant alcohol, fruity savour, rich and elegant bouquet. |

Castelnuovo Calcea lies in a panoramic site in the calm of sweet-sloping hills covered with vineyards offering excellent wines: Barbera, Grignolino, Cortese, Dolcetto. The extraordinary landscape a visitor can enjoy is the most important appeal of the village that for centuries has been the door to Belbo Valley, Monferrato with Nizza and Acqui, Astesana region with Costigliole, Agliano and Vinchio, lands and villages crossed by important trade roads from our region to the Ligurian coast from Middle Ages.
Castelnuovo Calcea keeps the house of
birth of Angelo Brofferio, a writer, dialectal poet and law orator,
the museum “me ritorn” devoted to him and the “nido della memoria”
(memory nist) a museum of the country civilisation rich in
documents and tools used by craftsmen and workers of old times. |
